SK Hynix Union Approves Revised Bonus Deal With Higher Cash Payout

The main production union for SK Hynix Inc. (KS:000660) has approved a revised annual wage and bonus agreement, securing a larger cash component for its members. The deal was accepted with 57.08% approval in a vote held on Tuesday, according to a report from the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Details of the Agreement
The central change in the newly approved package concerns the structure of the company's excess profit-sharing bonuses. The key terms of the deal include:
- A revised payment ratio of 50% cash and 50% stock for bonuses.
- This is an increase from a previously proposed split of 40% cash and 60% stock.
- The agreement also reportedly includes a 6.3% wage increase that was part of the initial proposal.
The vote resolves a point of contention that arose approximately three weeks ago when the union narrowly rejected the company's first offer. The union represents full-time production workers at the company's major facilities in Icheon and Cheongju.

These labor negotiations come as SK Hynix benefits from a significant surge in profitability, driven by soaring global demand for its high-performance memory chips used in artificial intelligence applications. The union had been advocating for workers to receive a larger share of this AI-fueled windfall.
Securing this labor agreement is a crucial development for SK Hynix, as it helps ensure operational stability at a time of high production demand. The resolution allows the company to focus on navigating the competitive semiconductor market without the disruption of a prolonged labor dispute.
