Kion Stock Jumps as Citi Upgrades on Industrial Truck Market Recovery Outlook

Shares of Kion Group AG (KGX) surged more than 6% on Tuesday after analysts at Citi upgraded the German warehouse technology and forklift manufacturer to “Buy” from “Neutral.” The bank raised its price target on the stock to €62 from €46, pointing to a strengthening recovery in the industrial truck market.
Citi's Rationale
Citi's upgrade is based on improving macroeconomic data in Germany, which the bank expects will drive an acceleration in demand for industrial trucks into 2027. According to the analyst note, this trend, combined with ongoing improvements in Kion's Industrial Trucks & Services (ITS) division, could lead to a significant re-rating of the company's shares.
The brokerage highlighted the ITS division's strong correlation with industrial production, noting its significant European exposure:
- Germany accounts for over 30% of the division's sales.
- Western Europe as a whole represents more than 70% of sales.
Growth and Valuation Outlook
AdCiti projects Kion's sales growth will recover to more than 6% in 2027, a level not seen since before the COVID-19 pandemic, with margins also set to expand. For the key ITS division, the bank forecasts roughly 5% overall growth from 2027, driven by a recovery in new unit sales and mid-to-high single-digit growth in its service business.
While Citi made only minor adjustments to its own forecasts, it noted that its earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) estimates for 2027 and 2028 are already more than 10% ahead of market consensus. The bank also argued that concerns about competition from China are “overdone,” especially in the high-end truck segment. With valuation multiples like EV/EBITA and EV/sales near cyclical lows, Citi sees significant potential for the stock to appreciate, though it flagged the macro cycle as a key risk.
Market Impact
Following the upgrade, Kion's shares rose sharply. Based on the previous day's closing price of €44.91, Citi's new €62 price target implies a potential share price return of 38.1%. Including an expected dividend yield of 2.6%, the total expected return is 40.6%, according to the bank's analysis.
