Nvidia's Growth Depends on Broader AI Customer Base, Morgan Stanley Says

Nvidia's ability to attract a wider range of customers beyond its core group of AI hyperscalers is the most critical factor for investors to monitor, according to a new report from Morgan Stanley. Analysts at the bank, who met with the chipmaker's senior management, believe the next phase of growth will be driven by a more diverse mix of clients.
Diversifying Demand
Morgan Stanley noted that demand for Nvidia's products is becoming increasingly broad, reducing concerns that the company's success is tied to the spending of a few large cloud companies. The bank highlighted several expanding customer segments as key growth drivers:
- AI labs
- Enterprise customers
- Neocloud providers
- Sovereign AI projects
This diversification comes as countries invest in domestic AI infrastructure and corporations build their own proprietary AI systems. The report added that Nvidia's management expressed confidence that revenue growth can continue accelerating even as quarterly sales approach the $100 billion mark.
Market Position and Outlook
AdDespite the rise of custom chips from competitors, Morgan Stanley argued that Nvidia maintains a dominant share of AI computing workloads. The analysts stated that Nvidia's systems often provide the lowest cost per AI token, preserving its competitive edge. Networking and CPUs are also becoming significant contributors to growth within its existing hyperscale clients.
The bank reiterated its Overweight rating on Nvidia, designating it as a top semiconductor pick with a $288 price target. Morgan Stanley also pointed to management's efforts to attract value-oriented investors, in addition to growth funds, by emphasizing the company's rapidly increasing cash generation.
Investor Context
Nvidia's stock has experienced significant volatility this year as investors weigh strong AI infrastructure spending against risks such as high valuations, export restrictions, and the sustainability of capital expenditures by major tech firms. Despite these swings, the stock has performed well, ending the recent week up approximately 4% amid a broader rebound in AI-related semiconductor shares.
