Background

Nvidia's next phase of growth will be driven by a broadening customer base beyond its core group of large cloud providers, a key theme for investors according to a new report from Morgan Stanley. The investment bank reiterated its Overweight rating and $288 price target on the chipmaker, naming it its top semiconductor pick after meeting with the company's senior management.

Demand Shifts Beyond Hyperscalers

According to the bank's analysts, the primary concern that Nvidia's fortunes hinge on a small group of big-spending cloud companies, or hyperscalers, is diminishing. The report highlights that demand is becoming increasingly diversified across a wider mix of clients.

This new wave of growth is expected to come from several key areas:

  • Enterprise Customers: Companies building their own proprietary AI capabilities.
  • Sovereign AI: Nations investing in domestic AI infrastructure.
  • Industrial Applications: The use of AI in manufacturing, robotics, and other sectors.
  • AI Labs and Neocloud Providers: A growing ecosystem of specialized AI-focused firms.

This diversification is seen as a crucial step in de-risking the company's revenue stream from the capital expenditure cycles of a few major tech giants.

Morgan Stanley noted that Nvidia's management expressed confidence that revenue growth can continue accelerating, even as quarterly sales approach the $100 billion mark. The report also pointed to networking and CPUs as increasingly meaningful growth drivers within its existing hyperscale customer base.

Despite the growing adoption of custom chips by some large tech firms, the bank argued that Nvidia maintains a dominant share of AI computing workloads. The analysts believe Nvidia's systems still offer the lowest cost per AI token in many deployments, securing its competitive position.

Market Context

The report comes as Nvidia's stock has experienced sharp swings, with investors weighing strong AI infrastructure spending against risks such as lofty valuations and U.S. export restrictions. Despite the volatility, the stock has posted strong year-to-date gains and ended the recent week up approximately 4%.

Morgan Stanley also highlighted management's efforts to broaden Nvidia's investor base. With its rapidly growing cash generation, the company is increasingly able to appeal to value-oriented investors in addition to its traditional base of growth funds.
