Ubisoft Downgraded by Wedbush on Debt Refinancing, Pipeline Uncertainty

Wedbush Securities has downgraded Ubisoft Entertainment (UBIP.PA) to Neutral from Outperform and sharply cut its price target to €5 from a previous €12. The downgrade reflects mounting uncertainty over the French video game publisher's debt refinancing plans and the visibility of its future product pipeline.
Analyst Concerns Mount
In a note to clients, Wedbush analysts led by Alicia Reese stated their conviction has changed "on both the financing path and pipeline visibility, and their interdependence compounds the shift." The firm's prior bullish stance was based on the expectation that Ubisoft would refinance a €675 million senior bond due in November 2027 and extend the term of a €470 million convertible bond due in November 2028.
However, Wedbush highlighted a change in Ubisoft's recent commentary, which now suggests it is "reviewing available financing options" and may "address the near-term maturity using cash on hand." The analysts warn that a cash paydown, while neutral to net debt, "would spend the buffer" and make resolving the 2028 bond maturity entirely dependent on a significant free cash flow improvement in fiscal 2028, which in turn relies on a "largely unannounced slate" of games.
Financials and Outlook
AdDespite the downgrade, Wedbush acknowledged some positive points, including a first-quarter beat and strong performance from "Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced." Ubisoft's Q1 net bookings fell 9.2% year-over-year to €255.8 million, which was above its own guidance but below consensus estimates. The company's Q2 guidance of roughly €370 million was ahead of Street expectations.
However, the firm noted that Ubisoft did not raise its fiscal 2027 guidance, implying that its back-catalog sales may be "eroding quickly enough to absorb real beats" from new titles. To reflect its concerns, Wedbush trimmed its fiscal 2027 revenue estimate and applied a compressed EV/EBITDA multiple to derive its new, lower price target.
Wedbush indicated it would revisit its neutral rating if Ubisoft secures a cash-preserving refinancing for the 2027 bond or provides a firmer release schedule for its fiscal 2027-28 games. For now, the firm views the stock's risk-reward profile as balanced and expects shares to remain range-bound.
