Twilio Stock Rises as Analysts See AI Agents as Growth Catalyst

Summary
Shares of Twilio rose after Wall Street analysts argued that emerging consumer AI agents, such as Meta's Muse, will likely increase demand for the company's communication services rather than disrupt them.
Shares of Twilio Inc. (NYSE: TWLO) climbed 3.2% on Wednesday as Wall Street analysts expressed growing optimism that consumer-facing artificial intelligence agents will serve as a significant growth driver for the communications platform.
The Bull Case for AI Agents
Analysts from Morgan Stanley and Stifel are viewing the rise of AI agents like Meta’s Muse not as a competitive threat, but as a potential tailwind that could substantially expand the volume of business-to-consumer interactions. The core argument is that these agents will increase, not cannibalize, the need for automated communication.
In a note to clients, Morgan Stanley analyst Elizabeth Porter argued that consumer agents lower the barrier for customers to engage with businesses, while enterprise AI reduces the cost of responding. This dynamic is expected to increase overall communication volumes and boost Twilio's usage-based revenue model.
A New Demand Driver
Stifel highlighted that both Twilio and Shopify have seen their stocks trade approximately 15% higher week-to-date, a move coinciding with strong early download numbers for Meta's Muse agent, which have reportedly surpassed those of competitors like Claude and Grok in a similar timeframe.
AdThe investment bank's thesis is that better AI-driven product discovery will lead to more e-commerce transactions, directly benefiting Shopify. In turn, this will fuel a greater need for automated customer communications like order confirmations and shipping updates, driving demand for Twilio's services.
Morgan Stanley noted that Twilio is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend, as its platform can handle the various messages and calls an AI agent initiates to complete user tasks, from authentication texts to reservation follow-ups.
Medium-Term Outlook
Despite the optimism, analysts cautioned that the benefits from this trend are unlikely to materialize immediately. Porter described the opportunity as a "stronger medium-term case" and warned against extrapolating the recent stock performance into the company's upcoming third-quarter results.
Stifel echoed this sentiment, projecting a "muted 3Q benefit" from the recent AI agent launches. The firm anticipates that the positive impact will begin to scale more meaningfully through the fourth quarter and into 2027.
