Market breadth was decidedly negative, with 405 stocks declining on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange compared to 255 advancers. The DAX volatility index, a key measure of expected market fluctuations, decreased by 3.21% to 16.58, suggesting a slight easing in investor anxiety despite the day's losses.
Sector and Stock Movers
The session's downturn was led by notable weakness in the construction, technology, and insurance industries. Among the DAX's biggest decliners were:
Ad- Porsche Automobil Holding SE (PSHG_p), which fell 4.14% to a new all-time low.
- Allianz SE (ALVG), which dropped 3.97%.
- Scout24 AG (G24n), which saw one of the steepest percentage losses on the index, falling 5.22%.
Bucking the negative trend, several companies posted strong gains. Defense contractor Rheinmetall AG (RHMG) was the top performer on the DAX, rising 3.39%. Software giant SAP SE (SAPG) also advanced, adding 2.27%.
Broader Market Movements
In the broader markets, energy prices moved higher. Brent oil, the international benchmark, saw its November contract rise 3.44% to trade at $102.66 a barrel. In contrast, gold futures for December delivery fell 1.36%.
In currency markets, the euro weakened against the U.S. dollar, with the EUR/USD pair down 0.49%. The US Dollar Index Futures, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, rose 0.47%, reflecting broad dollar strength.
