Salesforce Awarded $1.6 Billion Contract to Modernize U.S. Veterans Affairs Services

Summary
The enterprise software company will provide its AI-powered Missionforce platform to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs under a three-year agreement, boosting its public sector business and sending its shares higher.
Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) has secured a $1.6 billion, three-year contract from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to modernize care and service delivery for military veterans. The announcement sent company shares up 1.3% in Friday morning trading.
Details of the Agreement
The contract is an Agentic Enterprise License Agreement that enables the VA to leverage Salesforce’s Missionforce platform. This deal expands on a relationship between the two organizations that has spanned more than a decade.
Under the new agreement, the VA will deploy a suite of Salesforce technologies, including:
- AI-powered tools: Agentforce Public Sector and Agentforce Health will provide AI agents for 24/7 virtual support, patient triage, and care coordination.
- Collaboration: The Slack platform, already in use at over 150 VA facilities, will serve as a unified collaboration layer for teams and workflows.
- Data Integration: MuleSoft and Data 360 will integrate the VA's legacy systems into a unified data platform.
- Analytics: Tableau will provide analytics and dashboarding capabilities for functions like claims processing and employee performance reporting.
Modernizing Veteran Care
AdThe primary goal of the initiative is to reduce administrative burdens and provide VA employees with integrated access to information, ultimately improving services for the more than 17 million veterans and their families served by the department.
The VA, which operates 170 medical centers and over 1,100 outpatient clinics, aims to dramatically improve efficiency. A key target is to reduce the average appointment scheduling time from 28 days to just minutes once the new system is fully deployed, supporting the VA’s Unified Patient Scheduling initiative.
Context and Market Impact
The contract win reinforces Salesforce's position as a key technology provider for the public sector. The company already supports several critical VA programs, including the Veterans Crisis Line and the VA Health Connect contact center.
The positive investor response, reflected in the 1.3% stock price increase, underscores the market's confidence in the revenue and strategic value of large-scale government contracts for the enterprise software giant.
