Check Point Software Downgraded by Raymond James on Worsening Business Trends

Summary
Raymond James has lowered its rating on Check Point Software to Market Perform from Outperform, citing deteriorating channel partner feedback and weakening business fundamentals.
Raymond James downgraded Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP) to Market Perform from Outperform, removing its $160 price target on the stock. The brokerage noted that improving investor sentiment for the cybersecurity sector is clashing with worsening fundamentals and weakening channel trends for the company, suggesting a potential turnaround may take longer than anticipated.
Deteriorating Channel Feedback
The downgrade was driven by recent checks with Check Point's channel partners, which pointed to a significant deterioration in business conditions. According to the Raymond James note, these checks revealed several concerning trends:
- Weakening bookings across the board
- A "bleak" sales pipeline for the second half of the year
- Emerging signs of customer churn
These findings suggest that demand for the company's products and services is softening, posing a risk to future revenue growth.
Execution and Leadership Concerns
AdRaymond James also highlighted operational challenges within Check Point. The firm cited disruptions following recent management changes and said that early optimism surrounding new CEO Nadav Zafrir is fading due to "execution missteps." The note also mentioned the growing demand for endpoint security in the age of AI as a potential area of competitive pressure.
The brokerage warned that current Wall Street consensus forecasts for Check Point appear overly optimistic. It argued that consensus expects a "meaningful acceleration" in product revenue, subscription growth, and billings, despite limited evidence of an operational recovery. Raymond James stated its own fiscal 2027 estimates are below the current consensus.
Valuation Outlook
While Check Point trades at what might seem a modest valuation of roughly 13 times forward earnings and just over four times its enterprise value-to-revenue ratio, Raymond James argued this is justified. The firm believes the valuation reflects the company's lack of sustained earnings growth.
Without a credible path back to growth, the brokerage cautioned that Check Point's stock could continue to trade in line with "lower-valued, no-growth software peers."
