Wedbush Names Palo Alto, Rubrik Top Cybersecurity Picks as AI Drives Vendor Consolidation

Wedbush has initiated coverage of the cybersecurity sector with a bullish outlook on companies poised to capitalize on the industry's shift toward platform consolidation, driven by the proliferation of artificial intelligence. The investment firm noted that while overall cybersecurity budgets are not expanding, spending is being concentrated on a select few integrated platforms.
The AI-Driven Shift in Cybersecurity
According to Wedbush, the cybersecurity landscape is being reshaped by several key trends. The firm's analysis highlights that 75% of enterprises are actively working to consolidate their security vendors, a move that favors comprehensive platform providers over single-point solutions.
Wedbush identified five core themes influencing budget allocation:
- The need for AI-powered defense across all layers of the technology stack.
- A strong push toward platform and vendor consolidation.
- The emergence of data as the new security perimeter.
- The growing importance of observability as critical infrastructure.
- Disruption in the standalone vulnerability management market.
This shift is amplified by the fact that AI workloads can generate 10 to 50 times more telemetry data than traditional applications, creating significant new monitoring and security challenges that integrated platforms are better equipped to handle, the firm stated.
AdTop 'Outperform' Ratings
Wedbush designated several companies as market leaders, initiating coverage with 'Outperform' ratings and adding two to its 'Best Ideas List'.
- Palo Alto Networks (PANW): With a $400 price target, Wedbush called PANW the "clearest platformization winner." The firm pointed to its accelerating revenue growth of 34% year-over-year in fiscal 2026 and a 78% increase in platform-based deals.
- Rubrik (RBRK): Initiated with a $120 price target, Wedbush named RBRK the "strongest cyber resilience play in public markets." The company reported recent quarterly growth of 38% year-over-year, well above the industry average.
- CrowdStrike (CRWD): Assigned a $250 price target, Wedbush noted that its Falcon platform is the "structural architecture for AI-native endpoint protection." The company recently reported accelerated net new Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) growth of 51% year-over-year.
- Datadog (DDOG): Given a $275 price target, Wedbush sees the company as the "best positioned pure-play" for observability of cloud-native and AI workloads, citing its sixth consecutive quarter of revenue growth acceleration.
Market Implications
Wedbush's analysis suggests a challenging environment for smaller, specialized cybersecurity firms, particularly what it calls "standalone vulnerability management vendors." The overarching trend of consolidation indicates that capital and market share will likely flow toward larger players that can offer a unified, AI-integrated security platform. This dynamic positions companies like Palo Alto Networks and CrowdStrike to capture a greater share of enterprise security budgets as customers look to simplify and strengthen their defenses.
