Palo Alto Networks Price Target Raised by Morgan Stanley on AI Security Growth

Summary
Morgan Stanley increased its price target for Palo Alto Networks to $410, citing the company's potential for significant market share gains driven by the growing need for cybersecurity in the AI era.
Morgan Stanley has raised its price target for Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ:PANW) to $410 from $394, citing a significant and underappreciated growth opportunity driven by the enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence. The investment bank reiterated its "Overweight" rating on the cybersecurity firm's stock, naming it a "top pick."
Analyst Thesis: Underestimated Market Share Gains
The brokerage's bullish outlook is rooted in the belief that current consensus estimates fail to capture Palo Alto Networks' potential to expand its market share as enterprises consolidate their security spending with larger platform providers. In a note published Thursday, Morgan Stanley argued that market forecasts currently assume a 50 basis point market-share contraction for the company over the next two years.
This view contrasts sharply with the firm's own projection of a 75 basis point market-share gain over the same period. The bank's forecast is more aligned with the company's historical performance, which it notes was an approximate 100 basis point gain over the past four years.
The AI Security Opportunity
A key driver behind the upgraded target is the expected surge in cybersecurity spending linked to AI. According to the bank, the need for robust security solutions will increase as organizations deploy more AI applications and agents. Despite the stock's more than 110% gain this year, Morgan Stanley sees further upside.
AdMorgan Stanley highlighted that only about 1.5% of enterprise AI investment is currently allocated to security, suggesting substantial room for growth. The firm projects the broader cybersecurity software market could expand to approximately $300 billion by 2028, bolstered by AI-related security demand and vendor consolidation.
Potential Catalysts and Risks
Morgan Stanley identified several potential catalysts for the stock, including accelerating adoption of AI security tools and growth in the company's identity and SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) product lines.
However, the analysis also noted potential risks to its thesis. These headwinds include a slower-than-anticipated adoption of AI across enterprises, competitive disruption from new AI technologies, and the possibility that large, closed AI models could integrate their own security features, reducing demand for third-party providers.
