Bybit Reports Lower Q1 Bitcoin Spot Slippage Than Rivals, Citing Price Improvement Tech

Bybit, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges by volume, announced it achieved the lowest average slippage on Bitcoin (BTC) spot trades among major exchanges in the first quarter of 2026, according to an internal analysis the company released on Friday.
The exchange attributed the performance to its proprietary Rapid Price Improvement (RPI) mechanism, a system designed to reduce trading costs for both retail and institutional clients by improving execution quality.
Execution Analysis Highlights
Bybit's analysis focused on simulated BTC/USDT spot trades ranging from $10,000 to $1 million. The report found that Bybit consistently offered better execution prices, resulting in lower slippage compared to two unnamed leading global exchanges.
Key findings for a $10,000 order size in Q1 2026 include:
- Average slippage was approximately 52% lower than one competitor (0.01 basis points vs. 0.02 bps).
- Average slippage was approximately 84% lower than a second competitor (0.01 basis points vs. 0.06 bps).
The company stated that these advantages in execution quality remained consistent across larger institutional-sized block trades.
AdThe Role of Price Improvement
Bybit's RPI mechanism is an execution model that matches eligible spot orders against a dedicated pool of liquidity providers. These providers quote prices *inside* the publicly visible bid-ask spread, allowing traders to receive better prices than those displayed on the standard order book.
"Our focus is not simply increasing displayed liquidity but improving the prices users actually receive when trades are executed," said Sean Ballard, Head of Derivatives and Institutional Business, Trading Risk at Bybit. "Execution quality has become one of the most meaningful measures of exchange performance."
Liquidity and Market Context
The report suggests that execution quality is underpinned by deep market liquidity. In Q1 2026, Bybit's BTC/USDT market averaged $10.4 million in executable depth within a 5-basis-point spread, compared to $5.4 million and $1.9 million for the two benchmark exchanges.
Bybit noted that its analysis includes liquidity available through its RPI system, which may not be captured by third-party exchange rankings that rely solely on standard order book data. The company's results are based on its internal assessment, and actual execution can vary with market conditions.
