Adobe Stock Slides on Weak Q4 Outlook and Major Leadership Overhaul

Adobe (ADBE) shares fell 2.8% in pre-market trading after the company's fourth-quarter revenue guidance disappointed investors, overshadowing a solid earnings beat for the fiscal third quarter. The combination of a weaker-than-expected outlook and a significant leadership transition is weighing on the stock, causing it to underperform the broader market.
Guidance Misses Expectations
While Adobe reported strong fiscal third-quarter results, its forward-looking statements failed to inspire confidence. The company posted Q3 revenue of $6.76 billion and non-GAAP earnings per share of $6.13, with both figures surpassing consensus estimates by approximately 1%.
However, the company's revenue outlook for the upcoming fourth quarter fell just short of analyst expectations at its midpoint. This has raised investor concerns about the company's near-term growth trajectory and its ability to convert freemium users to paid subscribers amid competitive pressures on its core Creative Cloud products.
Leadership Shake-Up Adds Uncertainty
Adding to investor concerns, Adobe announced a major change in its executive leadership. Longtime CEO Shantanu Narayen will transition to the role of Executive Chair, effective December 1, 2026.
AdAnil Chakravarthy, who currently leads the Customer Experience Orchestration division, will be appointed President and CEO. Simultaneously, David Wadhwani, the head of Adobe's flagship creative division and widely considered an alternative internal CEO candidate, is set to depart the company. This dual departure from the senior leadership team raises questions about continuity during a critical period.
Market and Analyst Reaction
Adobe's decline contrasts with a positive session for the wider market, with the S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite both trading higher. This underperformance highlights the company-specific headwinds identified in the earnings report.
Analysts at Morgan Stanley reiterated their cautious stance, maintaining an Underweight rating and a $240 price target on the stock. The firm noted an absence of convincing signs of a business turnaround, according to the report. Investors remain focused on whether strong growth in AI-related annual recurring revenue, which surged over 150% year-over-year, can sufficiently offset challenges in the company's core businesses.
