Vera Therapeutics Stock Soars on Positive Phase 3 Kidney Drug Data

Vera Therapeutics (VERA) stock surged 14.0% in pre-market trading after the company announced positive final results from its pivotal ORIGIN 3 trial for TRUTAKNA, a treatment for the chronic kidney disease IgA nephropathy (IgAN).
Pivotal Trial Shows Kidney Function Preservation
The two-year, placebo-controlled Phase 3 study met all of its prespecified endpoints, according to a company announcement. The key finding related to kidney function, measured by the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), showed a mean change from baseline of just -0.1 in the TRUTAKNA arm compared to a decline of -5.7 in the placebo arm.
This highly statistically significant result demonstrates that TRUTAKNA effectively preserved kidney function over the full two-year trial period in the 428 adult participants, all of whom were at risk for disease progression.
Path to Full FDA Approval Clears
AdThe positive data is particularly significant as it fulfills the confirmatory evidence requirement tied to the drug's accelerated approval, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted in July 2026. Vera Therapeutics stated its intention to submit a supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) to the FDA in the fourth quarter of 2026.
This submission timeline puts TRUTAKNA on a potential path to receive full regulatory approval in 2027. The company formalized the disclosure in a Form 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, highlighting the materiality of the trial results.
Market Reaction
Vera's significant stock gain came in defiance of a weaker broader market, with S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures trading down ahead of the Federal Reserve's upcoming policy meeting. The strong, company-specific news provided a powerful catalyst for the stock, allowing it to trade well above its recent range on the strength of the clinical data and a clear regulatory outlook.
