ServiceNow Stock Slides After Partner IBM Reports Major Revenue Miss

Summary
ServiceNow shares fell more than 6% after key partner IBM announced preliminary Q2 revenue that significantly missed Wall Street expectations, raising concerns across the enterprise software sector.
Shares of ServiceNow Inc. (NOW) slid more than 6% in morning trading after strategic partner IBM Corp. released disappointing preliminary second-quarter results, sparking a sell-off among connected enterprise software companies.
IBM's Revenue Shortfall
The pressure on ServiceNow stems from IBM's announcement of preliminary Q2 revenue of $17.2 billion. According to the report, this figure was up just 1% year-over-year and fell well short of the consensus Wall Street estimate of $17.86 billion.
In a letter to investors, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna described the results as "disappointing." He attributed the miss primarily to weaker-than-expected performance in the company's Z mainframe business and related software sales.
Partnership Amplifies Contagion Risk
The negative reaction in ServiceNow's stock was magnified by the two companies' close and recently expanded partnership. Last week, IBM and ServiceNow announced a deeper collaboration to modernize enterprise systems and deploy AI, making the cloud software firm more sensitive to shifts in IBM's performance and investor sentiment.
AdThe sell-off occurred despite a moderately positive analyst note from UBS, which maintained its Neutral rating on ServiceNow while raising its price target to $115 from $100. This was not enough to counter the negative sentiment driven by the IBM news.
Broader Headwinds and Pre-Earnings Caution
The decline was compounded by broader weakness in the technology sector, with other major enterprise software and AI firms like Microsoft and Oracle also trading lower. While a cooler-than-expected June CPI reading provided some lift to the overall market, hawkish comments from Federal Reserve officials tempered investor enthusiasm.
Investors are also positioning ahead of ServiceNow's own Q2 2026 earnings report, which is scheduled for July 22. The combination of its partner's weak results and its own impending financial release prompted a risk-off approach from traders.
