Mistral AI Unveils Robostral Navigate Model for Autonomous Robot Navigation

French artificial intelligence startup Mistral AI on Wednesday announced a new robotics navigation model, Robostral Navigate, as it expands into industrial applications. The model is designed to allow robots to navigate complex environments using simple language prompts and visuals from a single camera.
According to the company, the technology operates from a single standard RGB camera, without requiring additional hardware like LiDAR or depth sensors. The model is hardware-agnostic and can be deployed on various types of robots, including wheeled, legged, and flying platforms of different sizes. Mistral AI stated that the system was trained entirely through simulation.
In its announcement, Mistral AI reported that the 8B parameter model achieved a 76.6% success rate on unseen Room-to-Room (R2R-CE) benchmarks. The company claims this performance surpasses the best existing single-camera approach by 9.7 points and outperforms the leading systems that use depth sensors or multiple cameras by 4.5 points.
AdThe development of Robostral Navigate is aimed at applications across several industries, including manufacturing, delivery, logistics, and hospitality. This move follows deals Mistral AI secured in May with major European industrial companies such as Airbus SE and BMW AG.
Founded in 2023 by former researchers from Google DeepMind and Meta Platforms, the Paris-based startup has quickly become a significant player in the AI field. Last month, Bloomberg News reported that the company was in talks to raise approximately €3 billion at a valuation of around €20 billion.
