Broad-Based Gains Lift Toronto Market

The rally was supported by gains across several key sectors, including Materials, Industrials, and Information Technology. Market breadth was positive, with 618 stocks advancing on the Toronto Stock Exchange compared to 353 decliners, while 61 issues ended the session unchanged.

Investor sentiment appeared to improve, as reflected by a drop in expected market turbulence. The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, fell by 3.53% to 13.12.

Sector and Stock Movers

Among the top individual performers on the main index were resource and materials companies. Standout gainers included:

Commodity and Currency Markets

In commodity markets, prices for key Canadian exports saw modest gains. Gold Futures for December delivery edged up 0.21%, while Crude oil for November delivery rose 0.34% to $91.42 a barrel. The international benchmark, the December Brent oil contract, added 0.52% to trade at $102.78 a barrel.

The Canadian dollar was relatively stable against its U.S. counterpart. The US Dollar Index Futures, which tracks the greenback against a basket of major currencies, ticked down slightly by 0.04%.
