Milky Mist Shares Double Since IPO on Strong Earnings, But Valuation Concerns Emerge

Shares of Milky Mist Dairy Food (MILY) have more than doubled since the company's initial public offering in August, propelled by its first earnings report as a publicly traded entity. The stock was trading at ₹292.77 on September 11, a 109% increase from its IPO price of ₹140, according to data from Investing.com.
Impressive Debut Earnings
The rally followed a strong performance in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, where Milky Mist demonstrated significant top- and bottom-line growth. The results underscored the company's strategy of focusing on higher-margin, value-added dairy products rather than commodity milk processing.
Key financial highlights from the quarter include:
- Revenue: ₹973.45 crore, a 44% increase year-over-year.
- Profit After Tax (PAT): ₹64.68 crore, surging 890% from the prior year.
- EBITDA Margin: Improved to 14.9% from 13.7%.
- Gross Margin: Widened to 34.2% from 31.5%.
Growth was robust across its main product categories, with yogurt sales climbing 153%, ice cream up 60%, cheese up 38%, and paneer up 34%.
Valuation Under Scrutiny
AdDespite the operational success, the stock's rapid appreciation has pushed its valuation into territory that analysts consider stretched. According to an Investing.com valuation model, the stock's fair value is estimated at ₹231.29, implying a potential 21% downside from its current price.
The company's valuation multiples reflect high market expectations, with a trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 115.9x. Furthermore, the company reported negative free cash flow of -₹1.68 billion over the last twelve months, a result of its capital-intensive expansion phase. Its debt-to-equity ratio is also elevated at 362%.
The Path Forward
Bulls point to the large, under-penetrated market for packaged dairy products in India and Milky Mist's strong position in South India as a foundation for nationwide expansion. The company's plans include deploying 50,000 retail coolers over three years to secure shelf space and investing approximately ₹700 crore in capital expenditures.
However, bears argue that the current stock price already accounts for years of flawless execution. The combination of high debt and negative cash flow creates risks if the company faces operational headwinds, such as rising input costs or increased competition. Technical indicators like the Relative Strength Index (RSI) also suggest the stock is in deeply overbought territory, which could signal a near-term pullback.
