Avio Stock Jumps Over 5% After Berenberg Upgrade Cites Rocket Motor Demand

Shares of Avio (AVI) surged more than 5% on Thursday after analysts at Berenberg upgraded the Italian aerospace and propulsion group to Buy from Hold. The bank's positive reassessment highlighted the company's strategic position as a key supplier of solid-propellant rocket motors amid a structural market shortage.
Analyst Upgrade Drives Gains
Berenberg raised its price target on Avio's stock to €39 from a previous €33, implying a potential upside of roughly 27% from the prior day's close. In its note, the bank argued that a global shortage of solid-propellant rocket motors (SRMs), which has been aggravated by geopolitical conflicts, increases the value of Avio as an independent, large-scale supplier for major defense prime contractors.
This bullish outlook led Berenberg to sharply revise its long-term financial estimates for the company. The bank's model now projects Avio's 2030 revenues to be approximately 19% above the current analyst consensus, with adjusted EBITDA forecast to be about 49% higher.
Recent Catalysts Add Momentum
The upgrade follows a series of positive corporate developments that have provided investors with greater visibility into Avio's growth prospects. Key recent events include:
Ad- A strategic cooperation agreement with Lockheed Martin, announced on October 13, for the production of solid rocket motors for programs like the Extended Range GMLRS and the Precision Strike Missile.
- A recent management update that offered improved clarity on the outlook for both the defense and space business segments.
- An ongoing share buyback program, which authorizes the repurchase of up to 500,648 shares for a potential total outlay of approximately €15 million, signaling confidence from management.
Market Reaction
Investors responded favorably to the combination of catalysts, sending Avio shares up 5.3% to €32.25 in Thursday's session on the FTSE MIB exchange. The move pushed the stock to its highest level in several weeks, well clear of its 52-week low of €23.30.
The stock's gains were amplified by a broadly positive trading day for European equities, providing a supportive backdrop for the analyst-driven rally.
