Airtel Mobile Commerce Jumps on Strong Maiden Results Post-IPO

Airtel Mobile Commerce NV shares gained 3.6% in London trading after the recently listed African fintech operator posted strong growth in its first-half financial results and announced its inaugural interim dividend.
First-Half Performance
In its first earnings report since going public, the company disclosed that revenue for the six months ending September 30, 2026, reached $830 million. This figure represents a 34% increase in reported currency and 25.1% growth in constant currency terms, according to the filing.
Key financial highlights from the report include:
- Profit after tax rose to $228 million, up from $188 million in the same period a year prior.
- Basic earnings per share (EPS) climbed to 7.9 cents from 6.5 cents.
- Operating free cash flow saw a 27.1% increase to $378 million.
Reflecting the strong performance, the board declared an interim dividend of 6.4 US cents per share. The company noted this payout aligns with its policy of distributing at least 80% of attributable profit to shareholders.
Operational Growth and Outlook
AdThe financial growth was underpinned by a significant expansion in the company's user base and engagement. The customer base grew by 18.7% to 56.7 million, while average revenue per user (ARPU) increased by 5.1% in constant currency.
CEO Ian Ferrao highlighted that the fastest growth is originating from what he termed "higher-quality revenue streams" such as payments, transfers, and financial services. Ferrao also pointed to a substantial growth opportunity, noting that approximately 75 million subscribers of the parent Airtel telco have yet to adopt the Airtel Money service.
The company reiterated its near- and medium-term guidance. Management expects its underlying EBITDA margin to moderate by up to 2 percentage points in fiscal 2027 before recovering to its medium-term target of around 50%.
Market Context
Thursday's results marked a significant milestone for Airtel Mobile Commerce, as it was the company's first public earnings announcement since its unconditional trading began on the London Stock Exchange on October 14, 2026. The initial public offering was described as the largest new listing on the exchange in five years, amplifying investor focus on this inaugural report.
The combination of strong top-line growth, a firm dividend commitment, and reaffirmed guidance gave investors confidence, driving the stock to a high of 190p during the session.
