Ypsomed Shares Tumble After UBS Downgrade on Novo Nordisk Drug Concerns

Shares of Ypsomed (YPSN) plunged on Wednesday after analysts at UBS downgraded the Swiss medical device manufacturer, citing growing concerns over the commercial prospects of a key client's weight-loss drug. The stock fell nearly 6.9% to trade at CHF 355.2 following the report, erasing a significant portion of its recent gains.
UBS Cites CagriSema Setback
UBS lowered its rating on Ypsomed from Buy to Neutral and trimmed its price target to CHF 400 from a previous CHF 425. The downgrade was directly linked to a new clinical trial readout for Novo Nordisk's weight-loss drug, CagriSema, for which Ypsomed is a key supplier of autoinjectors.
According to the bank's analysis, the trial showed CagriSema performing significantly worse than a rival therapy, tirzepatide from Eli Lilly. UBS characterized the result as a "double" inferiority and, as a result, slashed its sales estimates for the drug by approximately 50%. The bank noted that Ypsomed's 16% year-to-date rally prior to the news had already compressed the stock's risk-to-reward profile.
Impact on Ypsomed's Growth Outlook
The commercial success of CagriSema is a material factor for Ypsomed's future earnings. Previous estimates from Jefferies suggested the drug could account for 8–10% of Ypsomed’s fiscal 2030 revenues and as much as 10–25% of its incremental annual growth in the medium term.
AdWhile UBS acknowledged that Ypsomed’s broader product portfolio of pen and wearable injectors will continue to drive growth, the bank concluded that the reduced sales volumes from CagriSema would not be fully offset by other products in the medium term.
A Company-Specific Selloff
The sharp decline in Ypsomed's shares stood in contrast to the broader market, underscoring the company-specific nature of the news. The Swiss SPI index was trading higher on the day, as were major U.S. benchmarks.
Wednesday's move was driven entirely by the analyst action, which renewed investor uncertainty around one of the company's most important growth drivers.
