Theorem Launches Exchange Infrastructure to Boost Tokenized Asset Liquidity

Background

Theorem has launched its exchange infrastructure designed to facilitate secondary market trading for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), a sector grappling with limited liquidity despite its rapid growth. The platform enables issuers and tokenization firms to deploy their own branded and customizable trading venues, addressing a critical gap between asset issuance and active trading.

Bridging the Liquidity Gap

While the market for tokenized assets has expanded significantly, reaching an estimated value of over $28 billion by June 2026, a large portion of this capital remains inactive. According to the company's announcement, only about $3 billion of that value is currently utilized in decentralized finance (DeFi).

This illiquidity is highlighted by capital flow data, which shows that 93-100% of funds entering RWA protocols come from primary subscriptions. In contrast, genuine secondary market acquisitions on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) account for a mere 0-6% in most cases. Theorem aims to solve this by providing the tools for bespoke secondary markets rather than launching another standalone DEX.

Customizable Infrastructure for Institutions

Theorem's platform is built on Algebra Integral, an established exchange infrastructure that powers over 100 DEXs across more than 50 EVM-compatible networks and has processed over $200 billion in cumulative trading volume.

Building on this foundation, Theorem introduces a configurable rule framework tailored for the unique compliance and operational needs of RWAs. This allows for the implementation of asset-specific rules, including:

  • Know-Your-Customer (KYC) and investor eligibility checks
  • Restricted trading hours reflecting traditional market operations
  • Asset ownership restrictions and reference pricing mechanisms

This model is designed to appeal to institutional participants who require full ownership and operational control over their trading venues, reducing dependence on third-party exchange governance.

Market Outlook

"The first phase of tokenization was all about bringing assets on-chain. That has been achieved. The next phase is making those assets truly usable," said Vladimir Tikhomirov, Founder of Theorem, in a statement. He noted that without efficient secondary markets, many tokenized assets remain largely static after issuance.

By enabling every asset to have a market that adheres to its own rules, Theorem's stated goal is to unlock the trading potential of tokenized assets. The infrastructure is now available for deployment on EVM-compatible blockchains, allowing partners to launch their own RWA trading venues.
