SunCoke Energy Stock Surges on Strong Q3 Earnings and Raised Full-Year Outlook

SunCoke Energy (SXC) shares jumped nearly 9.8% in pre-market trading on October 27, 2026, after the company announced third-quarter financial results that far surpassed Wall Street estimates and raised its outlook for the full year.
Q3 Performance Beats Estimates
The metallurgical coke producer reported third-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $0.25, more than double the analyst consensus forecast of $0.12. Revenue for the period came in at $485.9 million, comfortably ahead of the expected $456.55 million.
Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA reached $76.9 million, an increase of approximately 30% from the $59.1 million reported in the same quarter of the prior year. The company attributed the strong performance to several factors, including:
- An additional month of operations from its Phoenix facility
- A favorable shift in the coke sales mix
- Improved coal-to-coke yields
- Higher terminal handling volumes
"We are extremely pleased with the strong performance from our Industrial Services and Domestic Coke businesses in the third quarter," said CEO Katherine Gates in a statement.
AdUpgraded Outlook and Shareholder Returns
Buoyed by the strong results, SunCoke's management raised its full-year 2026 forecast. The company now expects Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA to "modestly exceed the high end" of its previous guidance range of $250 million to $265 million. Furthermore, guidance for full-year free cash flow was lifted to a range of $180 million to $185 million.
In a sign of continued confidence in its financial position, the company's board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.12 per share. This marks SunCoke's 29th consecutive quarterly dividend payment to shareholders.
Market Reaction
The combination of the substantial earnings beat and upgraded guidance provided a powerful catalyst for the stock. Adding to the positive sentiment, Wall Street Zen upgraded SunCoke shares from "hold" to "buy" following the report. The pre-market rally pushed the stock price above its 52-week high of $10.68, a technically significant level that could attract further investor interest.
