Stellantis Q2 Shipments Climb 10% on Strong North American Demand

Stellantis (STLAM) announced its preliminary vehicle shipments for the second quarter rose 10% year-over-year to nearly 1.6 million units, according to a company statement on Monday. The growth was primarily driven by a significant rebound in North America, its most profitable region.
Regional Performance Breakdown
In North America, shipments surged 38% to 445,000 vehicles. Stellantis attributed the strong performance to the rollout of new and refreshed models and preparations for a planned summer production shutdown.
Key drivers in the region included:
- The Ram 1500 light-duty truck, including its high-performance TRX SRT version.
- Refreshed versions of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee.
- The Chrysler Pacifica minivan.
By contrast, the Enlarged Europe region saw more modest growth, with shipments increasing 5% to 762,000 units. The company noted this was supported by higher overall industry volumes and included approximately 33,000 vehicles from its Chinese partner, Leapmotor. Demand for budget models like the Citroen C3 and Fiat Panda was particularly strong.
AdGrowth in these key markets was partially offset by declines in the Middle East and Africa, which the company linked to regional conflict, and in South America, due to weakness in the Argentine market.
Strategic Context and Market Outlook
The improved shipment figures are a key metric for CEO Antonio Filosa's turnaround strategy, which aims to revive sales after recent struggles with high vehicle prices, quality issues, and increased competition. The company is set to report its full second-quarter financial results on July 30.
Despite the positive shipment news, Milan-listed shares of Stellantis were trading flat. The stock recently touched its lowest point since the automaker's formation in early 2021 from the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group, reflecting broader investor concerns about the automotive sector.
