Royal Caribbean Stock Surges on Q3 Earnings Beat and Upgraded Annual Forecast

Royal Caribbean (RCL) shares surged in morning trading after the cruise operator reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter earnings and raised its full-year profit forecast, signaling resilient consumer demand for travel experiences.
Earnings Beat and Raised Guidance
The company posted a strong third-quarter report before the market opened, delivering key results that topped Wall Street expectations:
- Adjusted Earnings Per Share: $6.57, beating the analyst consensus of $6.38.
- Revenue: $5.59 billion, an increase of approximately 8.8% year-over-year and broadly in line with estimates.
Crucially for investors, Royal Caribbean lifted its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to a new range of $17.85 to $17.95. This revised forecast nudges above the prior analyst consensus of $17.83, indicating that management expects the positive momentum to continue through the end of the year.
Demand Strength and Cost Timing
AdRoyal Caribbean attributed the outperformance to a combination of strong "close-in" demand—bookings made near sailing dates—and lower costs due to timing. However, the company noted that some of these expenses have been shifted into the fourth quarter.
This cost shift partially explains why the company's Q4 EPS guidance, at $3.48 to $3.58, came in slightly below analyst expectations. While this detail tempered some enthusiasm, it did not derail the overall positive market reaction to the strong full-year outlook.
Market Reaction
The stock climbed 6.8% in morning trading, a sharp move that stood out against a relatively flat broader market. The rally represented a significant reversal for the stock, which had been trading approximately 26% below its 52-week high heading into the report, suggesting investor sentiment was depressed and the bar for a positive reaction was low.
The company's confident commentary on booking trends also provided a lift to shares of its peers in the cruise sector. The results reinforce a consistent theme of resilient consumer spending on travel and leisure, even amid broader economic uncertainty.
