Rollins Shares Tumble After Q2 Earnings Miss Prompts Wall Street Downgrades

Shares of Rollins Inc. (NYSE: ROL) fell sharply on Thursday after the pest control services company reported second-quarter earnings and revenue that missed Wall Street estimates. The disappointing results, released after Wednesday's market close, prompted at least two investment banks to downgrade the stock and slash their price targets.
Analysts Cut Ratings on Growth Concerns
Following the report, Bank of America issued a rare double-downgrade on Rollins, moving its rating to Underperform from Buy. The firm also significantly cut its price target on the stock to $35 from $55. BofA analyst Curtis Nagle cited "weaker residential trends that reduce visibility around a recovery and reacceleration in organic growth" as the primary reason for the downgrade.
Similarly, RBC Capital downgraded Rollins to Sector Perform from Outperform and lowered its price target to $40 from $52. RBC analyst Ashish Sabadra highlighted that the company's organic growth has underperformed its mid-term guidance for three straight quarters, while incremental margins have missed targets in seven of the last eight quarters.
Disappointing Financial Metrics
The negative analyst sentiment followed a report where key financial metrics fell short of expectations. Rollins reported:
Ad- Earnings per share (EPS): $0.32, missing the analyst consensus of $0.34.
- Revenue: $1.08 billion, slightly below the expected $1.09 billion.
- Residential Growth: 3.6%, well below Bank of America's 4.5% estimate and the Street's 5.4% forecast.
- Margins: Came in at 22%, compared to the consensus estimate of 23%.
Bank of America noted that the weakness in residential growth was due to softer consumer-initiated demand and weaker lead generation. The firm also pointed out that first-half incremental margins were just 8%, a stark contrast to the company's stated framework of 25-30%.
Additional Headwinds
Adding to investor concerns, RBC flagged an "unexpected mid-quarter CFO transition" as a factor raising uncertainty. The bank also cited ongoing competitive pressures and a potential slowdown in GenAI-driven consumer lead generation as additional risks for the company moving forward.
