Ontex Shares Hit All-Time Low on Severe Q3 Profit Miss and Second Guidance Cut

Shares of Ontex (ONTEX) plummeted to a new all-time low on Wednesday after the personal hygiene products company reported third-quarter results that significantly missed analyst estimates and issued its second profit warning for the year, shaking investor confidence in its turnaround strategy.
Disappointing Q3 Performance
Ontex reported a third-quarter adjusted EBITDA of €25.9 million, a decline of 49% year-over-year and approximately 32% below what analysts had forecast, according to a company announcement. The sharp drop in profitability was attributed to two main factors:
- Rising Input Costs: Raw material costs reached their highest point of the year, running about 10% above levels seen at the beginning of 2026.
- Delayed Pricing Impact: Price increases intended to offset inflation were implemented more gradually than management had anticipated.
Quarterly revenue also fell by about 4% year-over-year to €428 million. The company cited soft demand in key product categories and the exit from certain overseas contracts as drivers for the sales decline.
Guidance Cut and Balance Sheet Strain
AdIn response to the poor performance, Ontex slashed its full-year adjusted EBITDA forecast to a range of €143–€148 million, down from an original projection of €165–€180 million. The guidance cut has amplified concerns about the company's financial health.
A key point of concern for investors is the company's leverage ratio, which climbed to 3.75x net debt to EBITDA. This figure is precisely at the maximum ceiling stipulated by the covenants on its revolving credit facility, raising the risk of a breach and a potential need to renegotiate terms with lenders if profitability does not improve swiftly. Adding to the uncertainty, Ontex disclosed that its Russian subsidiary would be deconsolidated after being placed under interim administration by local authorities.
Market Reaction
The earnings miss triggered an immediate and severe market response. Ontex shares fell 9.8% to trade at €1.57. The sell-off was company-specific, as the broader Belgian Bel20 index was flat for the day. In a note to clients, KBC Securities cut its price target on the stock from €3.00 to €1.75, describing the results as "very disappointing" and highlighting a "significant increase in balance sheet pressure."
