Nebius Stock Plummets Over 11% as Investor Concerns Eclipse Major AI Deal

Summary
Shares of Nebius fell sharply, reversing the previous day's rally as investor scrutiny over high capital spending, significant insider selling, and competitive pressures overshadowed a recent $1 billion AI contract.
Shares of neocloud provider Nebius (NBIS) plunged more than 11% in mid-day trading Tuesday, completely erasing gains from the previous session in a classic "sell the news" reaction just one day after the company announced a major new contract.
Post-Rally Reversal
The sharp decline follows a rally on Monday, which was fueled by Nebius unveiling a new asset-light partnership model and a landmark AI compute deal with Reflection AI. That agreement is valued at over $1 billion and extends through 2029.
However, the positive momentum was short-lived. The stock failed to hold above the psychologically important $190 level at Tuesday's open, triggering a rapid unwinding of positions as traders took profits from the prior day's news.
Scrutiny on Spending and Insider Sales
Investors are increasingly focused on whether Nebius's aggressive capital spending can generate sustainable returns. The company recently raised its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to a range of $20 billion to $25 billion. The market appears concerned that much of this new capacity will not produce meaningful revenue until the first half of 2027, demanding clearer evidence of cash conversion over a growing contract backlog.
AdAdding to the negative sentiment, regulatory filings have revealed a pattern of heavy insider selling. According to the reports, top executives including the CEO, CTO, and Chief Infrastructure Officer have collectively sold more than $140 million in shares over the last 90 days.
Sector-Wide Headwinds
The selloff is also occurring amid broader competitive anxiety in the neocloud sector. Since early July, reports that Meta Platforms plans to monetize its excess AI computing capacity have repeatedly weighed on shares of Nebius and its peer, CoreWeave.
Tuesday's decline came amid a modestly unfavorable backdrop for technology stocks, with the Nasdaq Composite down 0.6%. The broader S&P 500 was flat, suggesting the selling pressure was concentrated in high-growth names like Nebius.
