Man Group Shares Climb on Expanded Meiji Yasuda Partnership, $1.25 Billion Commitment

Shares of Man Group PLC (LON:EMG) rose sharply after the alternative investment manager announced a significantly expanded strategic partnership with Japan's Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company. The deal includes a planned JPY 200 billion (approximately $1.25 billion) capital commitment from Meiji Yasuda over three years and the potential for the insurer to acquire a minority equity stake in the firm.
Details of the Agreement
Under the terms of the expanded partnership announced on October 26, Meiji Yasuda will increase its capital allocation to Man Group's investment strategies, with a particular focus on private credit. This builds on an initial agreement established between the two firms in February 2025.
Furthermore, Meiji Yasuda will consider acquiring an equity stake of approximately 5% in Man Group. Any share purchase would be conducted on the open market, meaning no new shares will be issued. The arrangement includes several key provisions:
- A three-year lock-up period from the date of the agreement.
- A standstill restriction capping Meiji Yasuda's total potential holding at 19.99% of Man Group’s issued share capital.
- Orderly market arrangements governing any future disposals.
AdMarket Impact and Strategic Rationale
Following the announcement, Man Group shares climbed 3.8%. For the UK-based asset manager, the partnership is a key step in its strategic ambition to grow its private credit platform and enhance its services for large global insurance clients.
"Meiji Yasuda’s increased commitment to our investment strategies underlines our capabilities in private credit and demonstrates our ability to serve large insurance clients globally," said Robyn Grew, CEO of Man Group. For Meiji Yasuda, the deal provides greater access to Man Group's investment expertise, technology, and advisory services, and the two firms will co-develop products for the Japanese market. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
