Grvt Burns 1.1 Million Tokens in First Step of 'Grvt 2.0' Rollout

Grvt, a self-custodial trading platform built on a zero-knowledge chain, announced its foundation's token issuer has bought back and burned 1.1 million GRVT tokens. The transaction, executed on the open market, permanently removed close to 1% of the token's circulating supply at the time of purchase.
This move marks the first of five milestones the company has outlined ahead of a planned major platform upgrade, dubbed Grvt 2.0, scheduled for the end of November 2026.
Discretionary Buyback Program
The token burn is part of a discretionary buyback program initiated by the foundation's token issuer. While the issuer intends to conduct further buybacks on a monthly basis, the company clarified that these transactions are not guaranteed and have no predetermined purchase amount or schedule.
According to the announcement, the buybacks are handled by an independent partner, and all transactions can be verified on-chain via a public dashboard. "We welcome the issuer’s buybacks as a demonstration of its long-term commitment to the ecosystem and community," said Hong, co-founder and CEO of Grvt, describing the program as a "supportive mechanism aimed at reducing circulating token supply."
Roadmap to Grvt 2.0
AdThe token burn precedes a series of significant product launches intended to expand the platform's capabilities. Grvt's roadmap for the coming weeks includes:
- Grvt Earn (End of October): A feature designed to offer yield opportunities from tokenized assets, with target yields of up to 11%. The company noted these returns are not guaranteed.
- Stable Funding Perps (November): The introduction of perpetual futures contracts for commodities, stocks, foreign exchange, and indices, with a goal of listing over 1,000 markets by year-end.
- Yield as Margin (November): A function allowing traders to use balances from Grvt Earn as collateral for trading positions while continuing to accrue yield.
- Grvt 2.0 (End of November): The culmination of these updates into a single self-custodial application, which will include a new brand identity and the company's 2027 roadmap.
Addressing Idle Capital
The strategic expansion aims to solve a key issue identified in a 2026 survey of Grvt's user base. The survey found that 60% of respondents kept at least a quarter of their capital idle on the platform, with many moving funds to other venues to seek higher yields.
"Traders shouldn’t have to choose between putting their capital to work and keeping it ready to trade," Hong stated. "Grvt 2.0 is designed around a single self-custodial balance that can support both activities." The GRVT token was launched in July 2026.
