Bitcoin Surges Past $74,000 as Trump's Call for Regulation Boosts Sentiment

Bitcoin surged over 8% on Friday, breaking out of a multi-month trading range as comments from U.S. President Donald Trump ignited hopes for a clearer and potentially favorable regulatory environment for digital assets.
The world's largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization rose to $74,772.6, its highest level since late May, and briefly hit an intraday high of $75,591.6, according to Investing.com data.
Regulatory Hopes Fuel Rally
The primary catalyst for the market's upward move was President Trump's call for Congress to pass the Clarity Act. During a White House summit earlier in the week, Trump urged lawmakers to advance the bill, which aims to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies in the United States.
While the president's endorsement has spurred significant optimism among investors, the source material notes that the bill's path forward remains uncertain. The Clarity Act has previously stalled in Congress due to ongoing disagreements over key provisions, including how to categorize different digital assets and the treatment of yields from stablecoins.
Market Impact and ETF Flows
The rally marks a significant technical breakout for Bitcoin, which had been trading in a range between $60,000 and $70,000 for most of 2026. The cryptocurrency is on track for a weekly gain of nearly 19%, its strongest weekly performance since February 2024.
AdImproved sentiment was also reflected in investment flows. U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded approximately $1 billion in net inflows this week, their best result since January, according to data from aggregator SoSoValue. The market was also supported by a broader increase in risk appetite after the U.S. Treasury Department announced it would double its bond buybacks.
Crypto-Related Stocks Surge
The optimism spread to equity markets, with crypto-related stocks posting significant gains on Thursday. The rally continued into the Asian session on Friday.
Key stock movements included:
- MicroStrategy Inc. (MSTR): +7.8%
- Coinbase Global Inc. (COIN): +7.9%
- Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA): +15.5%
- Riot Platforms (RIOT): +8.3%
- Metaplanet Inc. (TYO:3350): +20%
