Bitcoin Stalls Near $63,000 as Selling Pressure, Regulatory Delays Weigh on Price

Bitcoin's price remained largely unchanged on Saturday, hovering just above $63,000 in a tight trading range. The leading cryptocurrency failed to rally alongside record highs in U.S. stock markets, signaling that it faces headwinds specific to the digital asset space.
As of 3:31 PM ET, Bitcoin was trading at $63,092.8, up a marginal 0.2% over the prior 24 hours, according to Investing.com data. The muted price action reflects a tug-of-war between bullish long-term trends and immediate market pressures.
Selling and Uncertainty Create Headwinds
Several factors are contributing to the current selling pressure and cautious sentiment among crypto investors.
- Corporate Selling: MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR), the largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin, sold 1,690 BTC for approximately $108.6 million, according to a report by Blockonomi. This sale added significant supply to a market already struggling to regain upward momentum.
- Regulatory Delays: Market sentiment was also dampened by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) postponing a decision on its proposed innovation exemption program for tokenized projects. This extends the uncertainty surrounding the regulatory path for new blockchain-based financial products.
- Technical Weakness: Analysts are closely watching the $63,220 level. A weekly close below this critical price point could flip a former support level into new resistance, potentially opening the door to further declines.
Long-Term Adoption vs. Macro Data
AdDespite near-term challenges, some market participants point to a positive long-term outlook. Asset manager Grayscale noted that expanding government deficits, growing blockchain applications, and the portfolio preferences of younger investors could drive Bitcoin adoption higher after the current market cycle. The firm suggests that rising sovereign debt may increase demand for scarce assets.
On the regulatory front, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) granted preliminary conditional approval for World Liberty Trust Company to become a national trust bank. The company, which has reported ties to Donald Trump, plans to manage the issuance and custody of the USD1 stablecoin. In the shorter term, investors are awaiting the U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation data, expected August 26, for signals on future interest rate policy and its potential impact on risk assets.
Altcoin Market Sees Mixed Performance
The broader cryptocurrency market showed mixed results on Saturday. Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, rose 0.2% to $1,884.35. However, XRP fell 0.4% to $1.0027, while Cardano (ADA) declined 1.1% to $0.1777. Other major tokens like Solana (SOL) and BNB posted modest gains.
