Bitcoin Slips Below Key Moving Averages, Technical Analysis Warns of Further Downside

Bitcoin's price has dropped below several crucial technical support levels, including all its major moving averages, signaling a potential shift to a bearish market trend. The cryptocurrency broke down from a multi-week trading range, raising concerns among analysts about further downside pressure.
Technical Breakdown Signals Weakness
According to a technical analysis published by Investing.com on October 26, Bitcoin has fallen below its 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day simple moving averages (SMAs). This alignment of indicators is often interpreted by market analysts as a strong confirmation of a developing downtrend.
The breakdown reportedly occurred from a "distribution range" that had formed above the $80,000 level. In technical terms, a distribution phase suggests that selling pressure is beginning to overcome buying interest, often preceding a move lower.
Key Support and Downside Targets
The analysis identifies $79,277 as the immediate and critical support level. A sustained break below this price could trigger accelerated selling, with the report warning of a potential "cascading liquidation event."
Should this support fail, the analysis points to several key downside levels to watch, based on Fibonacci retracement calculations from a prior market swing:
Ad- $77,781 (38.2% retracement level)
- $74,821 (50.0% retracement level)
- $71,862 (61.8% retracement level)
Conversely, the analysis notes that a price recovery above the $82,600 resistance area would be required to invalidate the current bearish market structure.
Conflicting Indicators Emerge
While the primary trend indicators are flashing bearish signals, some metrics suggest the possibility of a short-term price bounce. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is approaching oversold territory with a reading of 40.00, a condition that can sometimes precede a price recovery or consolidation.
However, other momentum indicators cited in the report, such as the MACD, show accelerating downward momentum, reinforcing the bearish outlook. The analysis highlights the zone between $80,865 and $81,700 as a significant resistance cluster, where the falling 20-day and 50-day SMAs are currently located.
