Bitcoin Recovers to $82,000 as Risk Appetite Returns, Bond Yields Cap Gains

Bitcoin's price rose on Monday, breaking a two-week losing streak as a recovery in U.S. technology stocks improved investor sentiment. The world's largest cryptocurrency gained 1% to trade at $82,003.7 by late Monday trading, though the advance was tempered by a sell-off in government bonds and volatile energy markets, according to data from Investing.com.
Broader Market Rebound Lifts Crypto
The rally in digital assets coincided with a rebound on Wall Street, where the tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite index climbed more than 1%. This provided some relief for risk assets, including cryptocurrencies, which had come under pressure during the previous week's stock market downturn.
According to the report, the prior week's market weakness was partly driven by a slide in artificial intelligence-related stocks, which had a spillover effect on broader risk sentiment. Monday's recovery suggests a partial return of investor appetite for higher-growth assets.
Headwinds from Bonds and Oil Markets
Despite the improved sentiment, headwinds from traditional markets kept crypto gains in check. A rout in the U.S. bond market resumed, pushing government borrowing costs higher and often making riskier assets less attractive.
Key fixed-income indicators moved higher on Monday:
Ad- The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose 4.3 basis points to 5.143%.
- The rate-sensitive 2-year Treasury yield advanced 4.2 basis points to 4.778%.
Energy markets also introduced volatility. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, settled at $109.16 a barrel. Prices pared earlier losses after Iran-backed Houthis reported attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities, according to the source material.
Corporate Buying and Altcoin Performance
Amid the price action, corporate buyers continued to add to their holdings. According to regulatory filings cited by Investing.com, corporate holder "Strategy" purchased 267 bitcoin between October 12 and October 18 at an average price of $82,900. Separately, another publicly traded holder, "Strive," added 1,223 BTC to its treasury between October 14 and October 16.
Other major cryptocurrencies also advanced on Monday, tracking Bitcoin's positive move. Ether (ETH), the second-largest token, rose 1.3% to $2,401.87, while Solana (SOL) and XRP gained 2.5% and 2.1%, respectively.
