Bitcoin Reclaims $83,000 Level as Risk Sentiment Improves and Oil Prices Ease

Bitcoin climbed back above the $83,000 mark on Tuesday, supported by a broader improvement in risk sentiment across traditional financial markets and a pullback in oil prices. The leading cryptocurrency reversed an earlier dip, attempting to regain momentum after retreating from levels above $85,000 earlier in the month.
Market Dynamics
By late Tuesday trading, Bitcoin was up 1.3% to $83,087.2, according to data from Investing.com. The upward move coincided with gains on Wall Street, where solid corporate earnings reports helped bolster investor confidence. The digital asset market has recently been trading in a tight range, struggling to sustain a decisive recovery.
Analysts noted that Bitcoin has entered a period of consolidation with significantly lower volatility. Iliya Kalchev, an analyst at Nexo Dispatch, observed that the trading range has been narrowing, as cited by Investing.com.
- Realized volatility has fallen to approximately 18% annualized, a sharp drop from 42% in August and September.
- The trading range since October 13 has held between $81,400 and $83,100.
- Open interest has settled between 443,500 and 449,100 BTC, about 8% below its late September peak, indicating some deleveraging in the market.
Macroeconomic Factors
AdThe improved mood for risk assets was also aided by a reversal in energy markets. Brent crude futures, the global benchmark, fell more than 2% after hitting a five-month high earlier in the day on geopolitical tensions. The retreat followed unconfirmed reports of mediation efforts between the U.S. and Iran, easing some supply concerns.
Persistently high energy costs are a key concern for investors, as they could fuel inflation and complicate the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. Tighter financial conditions tend to weigh on risk-sensitive assets like cryptocurrencies. Investors are now focused on the Fed's upcoming policy meeting on October 27-28. According to FedWatch data, markets are pricing in a 75% chance of a rate hike in December, with only an 18% probability for the October meeting.
Altcoins Follow Suit
Other major cryptocurrencies largely tracked Bitcoin's positive performance on Tuesday. The broader crypto market saw widespread gains as sentiment turned positive.
- Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, gained 2.3% to trade at $2,462.78.
- XRP climbed 2.6% to $1.3381.
- Other notable gainers included Solana (SOL) and Cardano (ADA), which advanced 1.8% and 2.6%, respectively.
