Bitcoin Rallies Toward $70,000 on US Regulatory Hopes and Falling Bond Yields

Bitcoin surged on Thursday, leading a broad recovery across the cryptocurrency market after favorable developments from Washington and a shift in wider market sentiment. The price of the world's largest digital asset was bolstered by President Donald Trump's call for Congress to pass a key regulatory bill and a sharp drop in U.S. Treasury yields.
According to data from Investing.com, Bitcoin rose 7.9% to $69,387.7 by 02:06 ET. The token reached a near three-month high of $69,861.4 during the session, stopping just short of the key $70,000 psychological level.
White House Meeting Boosts Regulatory Outlook
A primary catalyst for the rally was a statement from President Trump on Wednesday, in which he urged lawmakers to pass the "Clarity act," a bill intended to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets in the United States. The comments came during a White House meeting with prominent industry figures, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev, as well as regulatory officials.
Proponents argue the legislation would provide much-needed legal clarity for the crypto industry. The bill has previously stalled in Congress due to disagreements over the treatment of crypto assets and specific provisions, such as yield payments on stablecoin deposits, which have drawn concern from the traditional banking sector.
Market Dynamics and Investor Sentiment
AdThe crypto rally was also supported by improving risk appetite in traditional financial markets. This shift was triggered after the U.S. Treasury announced it would double the size of its debt buyback operations, an action that sparked a significant drop in bond yields.
Lower government bond yields typically reduce the appeal of holding safer assets and can encourage investors to allocate capital to higher-risk, higher-reward assets like cryptocurrencies. Despite the positive momentum, some market caution remains amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, the source noted.
Altcoins Outperform in Broader Rally
Other cryptocurrencies posted even stronger gains than Bitcoin, as investors engaged in bargain buying following months of relative underperformance. Key altcoin movements included:
- Ether (ETH): The second-largest cryptocurrency jumped 17% to $2,244.60, hitting a 15-month high.
- XRP and Solana (SOL): Both tokens rallied approximately 10%.
- BNB and Cardano (ADA): Posted gains of 3.8% and 4%, respectively.
