Bitcoin Holds Above $80K as On-Chain Data Shows Whale and Institutional Activity

Bitcoin traded just above $80,000 early Saturday, with on-chain data showing significant movements by large holders and institutional entities. The activity comes as the leading cryptocurrency holds a key support level following recent selling pressure, prompting close observation from market participants.
At approximately 01:15 ET, Bitcoin was trading at $80,841.9, down about 1.25% on the day, according to Investing.com data.
Large On-Chain Transactions Detected
Recent analysis of blockchain data has highlighted substantial Bitcoin movements, suggesting increased activity among major market players. While these transfers do not necessarily confirm new purchases, they point to significant wallet management and potential shifts to long-term custody.
Key on-chain developments include:
- Whale Withdrawals: Since October 1, 40 newly created wallets have withdrawn approximately 9,458 BTC, valued at $771.5 million, from the trading firm Wintermute, according to data from Lookonchain.
- Institutional Wallet Activity: Onchain Lens reported that a wallet associated with Fidelity's Bitcoin ETF received 282.63 BTC (approx. $23.08 million) from Binance. Separately, wallets linked to BlackRock received 384.77 BTC (approx. $31.4 million).
AdThis activity is further supported by exchange flow data, which showed net spot exchange outflows of approximately $465.55 million on October 22. On the same day, dollar-denominated Bitcoin reserves on exchanges declined by 1.35%.
Corporate Developments and Market Context
Corporate interest remains a key factor in the market. MicroStrategy chairman Michael Saylor hinted at further Bitcoin-related news after the company disclosed it had purchased an additional 267 BTC for $22.1 million between October 12–18. The firm's total holdings now stand at 848,517 BTC, acquired for an aggregate cost of approximately $64.02 billion.
Despite the notable on-chain activity for Bitcoin, the broader cryptocurrency market saw modest declines. Ether (ETH) fell 1.0% to $2,380.28, while XRP dropped 2.71% to $1.2907. Other major altcoins, including Solana (SOL) and BNB, also traded lower.
