Zama Partners With Elliptic to Embed Compliance into Confidential Finance

Confidentiality protocol Zama has announced a partnership with blockchain intelligence firm Elliptic to integrate compliance screening tools into its privacy-focused financial applications. The collaboration seeks to address a critical hurdle for institutional finance on public blockchains by merging advanced data confidentiality with established regulatory controls.
Bridging Confidentiality and Compliance
The partnership aims to provide a framework for "compliant confidential finance," allowing institutions to conduct on-chain activities while meeting their compliance obligations. According to a joint announcement, the integration is designed to prove that financial privacy and risk management can coexist on public ledgers.
As a first step, Elliptic will provide wallet risk screening for Zama's confidential vaults. The implementation will enable compliance checks while preserving the core privacy features of Zama's technology.
- The system allows for risk screening of wallet addresses without exposing encrypted balances or transaction amounts.
- It is designed to help institutions apply trusted compliance workflows to confidential on-chain applications.
- This approach embeds compliance controls directly into the infrastructure, a model referred to as "compliant by design."
The Technology at Play
Zama provides an open-source protocol that utilizes Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), a powerful cryptographic technique that allows for computations to be performed on encrypted data. This enables the development of confidential applications on public blockchains without compromising on security or decentralization.
AdElliptic is a global provider of blockchain analytics and compliance solutions, supporting over 700 institutions and analyzing more than $90 million in digital asset activity daily. Its role in the partnership is to perform Know Your Transaction (KYT) analysis on addresses, a standard compliance procedure to identify links to illicit activity.
"Institutional adoption depends on trust," said Rand Hindi, CEO and Co-founder of Zama. "Financial institutions shouldn’t have to choose between protecting sensitive financial information and meeting compliance obligations. Our collaboration with Elliptic is an important step toward making compliant confidential finance a reality."
Paving the Way for Institutions
This collaboration addresses the persistent tension between the transparency of public blockchains and the confidentiality requirements of regulated financial institutions. By integrating compliance at the protocol level, the partners hope to create a trusted environment for institutions to move significant financial activity on-chain.
"For institutions to move real financial activity onto public blockchains, confidentiality and compliance have to work together rather than against each other," stated Jackson Hull, CTO and COO at Elliptic. He added that Zama's approach is a model for how confidential finance can meet the standards that regulated markets expect.
