Wheat Futures Rise as Markets Await Key USDA Supply Report

Summary
Wheat futures gained on Wednesday as traders anticipated the U.S. Department of Agriculture's monthly supply and demand report. Potential weather-related harvest delays in Ukraine also appeared to influence market sentiment.
Wheat futures moved higher on Wednesday as grain markets looked ahead to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) influential monthly supply and demand report, which is scheduled for release on Friday.
The gains were seen across major wheat contracts. CBOT September soft red winter wheat increased by 1-3/4 cents to $6.20-1/4 per bushel. Kansas City September hard red winter wheat rose 4-3/4 cents to $6.57-1/2 per bushel, and Minneapolis September spring wheat also climbed 4-3/4 cents to $6.37-3/4 per bushel. Soybeans reportedly traded higher as well ahead of the data release.
The upcoming USDA report is a significant focus for the market, as it will include the agency’s estimates for end-of-June acreage and grain stocks. This data provides critical information on the supply outlook that can influence trading strategies.
AdAdding to market considerations are potential weather conditions in Eastern Europe. According to Ukraine’s largest farmers’ union, UAC, rainy weather forecast for the country's western, northern, and central regions over the next week could slow the harvesting of barley and wheat. The group noted that the wet conditions could also negatively affect the quality of the grain.
