Warsaw's WIG30 Index Slips 0.55% on Materials and Energy Sector Weakness

Poland's benchmark WIG30 index finished Monday's trading session in negative territory, declining 0.55% as losses in key industrial sectors weighed on the broader market. The close in Warsaw saw widespread selling pressure, with declining stocks significantly outnumbering advancers.
Sector-Specific Pressure
The day's downturn was primarily driven by weakness in the Basic Materials, Chemicals, and Energy sectors, according to market data. Market breadth was decidedly negative, with 350 stocks falling on the Warsaw Stock Exchange compared to 181 that advanced, while 104 issues ended the day unchanged.
Among the index's worst performers was copper and silver producer KGHM Polska Miedz SA (WA:KGH), which saw its shares fall by 5.16%. Other significant decliners included aluminum products manufacturer Grupa KĘTY SA (WA:KTY), down 4.32%, and media and telecommunications firm Cyfrowy Polsat SA (WA:CPS), which lost 3.18%.
Pockets of Strength
Despite the negative sentiment, a few WIG30 components bucked the trend. The session's top performers included:
Ad- Pepco Group Nv (WA:PCOP), which gained 2.14%.
- E-commerce platform Allegro (WA:ALEP), rising 1.90%.
- Fashion retailer LPP SA (WA:LPPP), which added 1.11%.
