Wall Street Banks Vie to Manage Anthropic Employee Wealth Ahead of IPO: Report

Several of Wall Street's largest banks are competing to manage the expected financial windfalls for employees of artificial intelligence startup Anthropic PBC ahead of its anticipated initial public offering, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The Competition for a Key Mandate
Anthropic, the developer of the AI model Claude, has been actively seeking proposals from financial firms for wealth management services. The company issued a formal request for information in recent weeks to compile a list of approved advisers for its staff, the report said.
Discussions have reportedly been held with a number of major players in the wealth management space, including:
- Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
- Bank of America Corp.
- JPMorgan Chase & Co.
- Wells Fargo & Co.
- Bank of New York Mellon Corp.'s wealth unit
AdAnthropic asked the firms to present their service offerings, fee structures, and other operational details. Smaller boutique and advisory firms have also responded to the request, according to Bloomberg.
Context for Investors
The move highlights a significant business opportunity for wealth managers who cater to the newly affluent. An IPO for a high-valuation tech company like Anthropic can create substantial, and often complex, personal fortunes for hundreds of employees, who then require sophisticated financial planning, tax strategy, and investment advice.
This process mirrors a similar situation that occurred before the SpaceX IPO, where employees organized to negotiate more favorable terms and access to specialized financial products from wealth management firms. For the banks, securing a mandate from a company like Anthropic provides access to a large pool of high-net-worth clients at a single stroke.
