Victrex Shares Surge After Raising Full-Year Profit Forecast

Shares of Victrex PLC (VCTX) surged more than 15% after the high-performance polymer manufacturer raised its full-year profit guidance in a pre-close trading update. The company's stock price touched a new 52-week high of 1,018 pence during the session, a move that starkly contrasted with a slight decline in the broader UK market.
Upgraded Profit Outlook
Victrex announced it now expects underlying profit before tax for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2026, to be in the range of £45 million to £47 million. This marks a significant increase from its previous forecast of £42 million to £44 million.
The company attributed the improved outlook to sustained momentum through its fourth quarter. Growth was reportedly led by its Aerospace, Value Added Resellers, and Electronics end markets, with particularly strong regional performance noted in Asia-Pacific.
"We have maintained our strong momentum during Q4, with revenue growth driven by improved performance across key end markets and all regions," said CEO Dr. James Routh in the update. "As a result, we now expect full year underlying PBT for FY 2026 to be ahead of our prior guidance."
Strategic Initiatives Bolster Confidence
AdBeyond the guidance lift, Victrex confirmed the completion of several key strategic actions that reinforced investor confidence. These initiatives include:
- Restructuring: A planned 10% reduction in headcount has been completed, which is expected to deliver at least £10 million in annualised cost savings beginning next fiscal year.
- Divestment: The company finalized the sale of its US-based Kleiss Gears business to The Heico Companies. The move is part of a strategy to sharpen focus on core operations and will result in an exceptional disposal loss of approximately £3 million in its 2026 results.
Market Reaction
The rally in Victrex shares was entirely company-specific, occurring while the FTSE 250 index, of which Victrex is a member, declined by around 0.2%. The combination of a material profit upgrade, cost-saving measures, and a strategic divestment created a powerful catalyst for the stock.
Investors will be looking for further details on the company's growth strategy at its upcoming Capital Markets Event scheduled for September 24. This near-term event provides an additional point of focus and helped sustain buying momentum throughout the trading session.
