Uniswap Labs Deploys Dynamic Fee Hook for Stablecoin Pools on v4

Uniswap Labs has launched the StablePair Hook, a new dynamic fee mechanism for the Uniswap v4 protocol designed specifically for stable asset trading pairs. The feature is now live on the Ethereum mainnet with two initial liquidity pools, USDC/USDG and USDC/USDT, according to a company announcement.
A New Approach to Stable Pair Fees
The StablePair Hook addresses a long-standing challenge in decentralized finance (DeFi) where static trading fees on stable pairs often benefit arbitrage bots more than liquidity providers (LPs). Because these pairs, such as USDC/USDT, trade around a known price parity, any deviation creates an arbitrage opportunity. Uniswap Labs states that a static fee structure either gives away this value to bots if set too low or renders the pool uncompetitive if set too high.
This new hook replaces the static model with a dynamic fee that adjusts based on how far the pool's price has drifted from its reference price. The mechanism operates in three distinct ways:
- Within a tight price band: The fee adjusts on every swap to maintain a fixed bid/ask spread.
- Outside the band (price-improving swaps): Trades that push the price back toward parity are processed through a Dutch auction, where the fee starts high and decreases until a trader accepts it, with LPs retaining the fee.
- Outside the band (price-worsening swaps): Swaps that push the price further from parity incur no fee, as they provide the pool with a favorable price.
Market Implications
AdThe primary goal of the StablePair Hook is to internalize value that would otherwise be captured by arbitrageurs, thereby increasing returns for LPs. The market for these assets is substantial; according to Uniswap Labs, stablecoin-to-stablecoin swaps on the Uniswap Protocol alone accounted for $43.4 billion in trading volume in the second quarter of 2026.
By creating a more sophisticated fee market, the hook aims to improve capital efficiency and make providing liquidity for stable pairs more attractive. The feature is also designed to be upgradeable through Uniswap Governance, allowing for future improvements to the fee logic without requiring LPs to migrate their funds to a new pool.
Context of Uniswap v4 Hooks
The launch is part of a broader strategy by Uniswap Labs to leverage the 'hooks' feature, a core architectural component of Uniswap v4. Hooks allow developers to introduce custom logic and rules to liquidity pools, moving beyond the standard Automated Market Maker (AMM) model. The StablePair Hook joins other specialized hooks developed by Uniswap Labs, including DualPool and Permissioned Pools, as the firm continues to build out more advanced market structures on its protocol.
