Taurus Integrates With Swift's Shared Ledger, Onboarding Bank Clients Within Days

Digital asset infrastructure firm Taurus has finalized its integration with Swift's blockchain-based shared ledger, a move that will connect its banking clients to the global financial network's tokenization platform. The first clients are expected to go live within days, with initial transactions anticipated in the coming weeks.
Bridging Traditional and Digital Finance
The Geneva-based firm has connected its core products, Taurus-PROTECT for custody and Taurus-CAPITAL for tokenization, with Swift's smart contracts. This allows financial institutions using Taurus's platform to seamlessly access Swift's shared ledger on their own permissioned blockchain infrastructure.
For banks already using Taurus for digital asset services, the connection can be established in a matter of days. The company is also targeting Swift member institutions that have not yet entered the digital asset space, offering them a direct pathway into the tokenized economy without needing to build their own infrastructure from the ground up.
Market Implications
This integration provides a significant on-ramp for banks to participate in the growing market for tokenized deposits. The solution is designed to keep these digital assets on the banks' own balance sheets, a key concern for regulators and institutions wary of the systemic risks posed by third-party stablecoins in cross-border payments.
AdBy leveraging Swift's ledger, banks can coordinate transactions around the clock, including on nights and weekends, before final settlement occurs. The system complements, rather than replaces, existing settlement mechanisms like real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems, allowing for extended payment availability without a complete overhaul of core infrastructure.
Context on Swift's Ledger Initiative
Swift first announced its shared ledger concept at the Sibos 2025 conference. The platform was developed in collaboration with more than 40 financial institutions and was brought from concept to activation in nine months.
A pilot program involving 17 first-mover institutions successfully tested tokenized deposit transactions. Swift's role remains that of a messaging and coordination network, ensuring interoperability between participants while final value transfer continues through established financial channels.
