Strategy Inc. Stock Jumps Over 5% as CPI Report Boosts Risk Assets

Shares of Strategy Inc. surged more than 5% in morning trading to $135.17 after a key U.S. inflation report fueled a broad, risk-on rally across equity and cryptocurrency markets.
Macro Tailwinds Drive Rally
The market-wide advance was triggered by the release of the August Consumer Price Index (CPI), the last significant inflation reading before the Federal Reserve's policy meeting on September 15–16. According to Investing.com, the report eased investor fears of a more aggressive interest rate path from the central bank, providing a significant tailwind for risk assets.
As the world's largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, Strategy's stock performance is closely tied to the cryptocurrency market. The company’s shares exhibit a high-beta relationship with digital assets, meaning they tend to experience larger price swings than the underlying crypto market. This leverage amplified Tuesday's gains, allowing the stock to significantly outperform the broader market indices.
Company-Specific Catalysts
AdRecent corporate actions also provided a constructive backdrop for the stock. Strategy's board announced on September 8 that it had doubled its repurchase authorization for digital credit securities to $2 billion. The company also recently deployed $176.3 million to buy back preferred shares.
These moves, which signal a focus on shareholder returns and disciplined capital allocation, were complemented by a positive analyst rating. Canaccord Genuity recently reiterated its Buy rating on the stock and raised its price target to $179 from $175.
Market Context
Strategy's 5.1% gain far outpaced the advances in the major U.S. indices. For comparison, the S&P 500 added 0.9%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.85%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.1%. The rally also lifted Bitcoin, which had been trading near the $77,000 level ahead of the inflation data.
