Senator Warner Urges Wall Street to Reject Paid Early Access to Trump's Truth Social Posts

Summary
A senior Democratic senator has called on financial industry groups to disavow a new paid service from Trump Media & Technology Group offering high-speed access to Donald Trump's social media posts, citing concerns over 'information asymmetry' and potential conflicts of interest.
A top Democratic U.S. senator is urging banks and trading firms to shun a new product from Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) that provides paid, early access to posts on the Truth Social platform. Senator Mark Warner warned the service creates a "very troubling form of information asymmetry" that could give select traders an unfair advantage based on market-moving presidential communications.
Senator Warns of Unfair Advantage
In a letter sent Tuesday, Senator Mark Warner, a senior member of the Senate Intelligence and Banking Committees, called on the heads of six major financial trade groups to publicly reject the arrangement. He argued the service would allow President Donald Trump to personally profit from government policy announcements made on his platform.
"I urge you to make clear that the financial services industry will not legitimize an arrangement that sells privileged access to market-moving presidential communications, especially for the president’s personal financial benefit," Warner wrote. The letter was addressed to groups including the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) and the Managed Funds Association, none of whom responded to requests for comment, according to Reuters.
The 'Truth API' Product
The service, called "Truth API," is a licensed data feed from TMTG, the parent company of Truth Social. It is designed to deliver posts from the platform's 10 most influential accounts, including Trump's, to paying customers faster than they would appear to the general public via standard notifications.
AdAccording to sources cited by Reuters, TMTG has discussed charging financial firms as much as $100,000 per month for this high-speed access. A discounted rate of $60,000 per month was reportedly offered for firms committing to a three-year contract.
Market and Ethical Implications
President Trump's social media posts have frequently caused significant, immediate reactions in global markets. Providing privileged, high-speed access to this information could offer a critical advantage to algorithmic and high-frequency traders.
While tech platforms are generally permitted to offer tiered data access, ethics experts have noted the unusual nature of this situation, as a president's communications can be considered official government information. The White House deferred comment to TMTG, which did not respond to inquiries, Reuters reported.
