Rep. Tom Tiffany Sustains Minor Injuries After Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Wisconsin

U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany, the Republican nominee for governor of Wisconsin, sustained minor injuries after a plane he was traveling in lost power and made an emergency water landing on a lake in central Wisconsin late Saturday.
The incident has no direct impact on financial markets but occurs in the final months of a closely watched gubernatorial race.
Details of the Incident
In a statement posted on the social media platform X early Sunday, Tiffany said the aircraft lost power as it approached the Wausau Downtown Airport. He was returning from a political event, the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner.
According to the statement, the pilot successfully executed an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau. Tiffany reported that after landing, they called 911 and exited the aircraft as it began to submerge, swimming to a shallow area to await rescue.
AdEmergency responders reached them by boat and transported both individuals to Aspirus Wausau Hospital. "Thankfully, both the pilot and I sustained only minor injuries," Tiffany added in his post.
Political Context
Tiffany, who represents Wisconsin’s seventh Congressional District, secured the Republican nomination for governor in August and has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump. He is set to face Democratic nominee David Crowley, the Milwaukee County Executive, in the November 3 gubernatorial election.
Crowley issued a statement expressing his relief that no one was seriously harmed in the incident. "I’m grateful to God that Congressman Tiffany and no one else was hurt in this horrifying incident, which could have been a tragedy if not for the heroism of the pilot," Crowley said.
