Background

Japan's Nikkei 225 index posted a strong gain on Wednesday, closing 1.52% higher as advances in technology, real estate, and banking shares lifted the benchmark. The rally occurred alongside a significant drop in a key measure of market volatility, according to data from Investing.com.

Market Details

While the headline index advanced, the gains were not universal across the market. On the broader Tokyo Stock Exchange, declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones by 2,245 to 1,268, with 209 issues ending unchanged, indicating the rally was concentrated in specific large-cap names.

In a sign of easing investor anxiety, the Nikkei Volatility index, which tracks the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, plunged 19.73% to finish at 27.66. A drop in this index typically suggests a calmer market outlook.
