Navan Stock Plummets Over 20% Despite Q2 Revenue Beat and Raised Guidance

Navan Inc. (NAVN) reported second-quarter financial results that surpassed analyst expectations, but its shares plunged by more than 20% in trading on Tuesday. The sharp selloff occurred as the company's raised full-year guidance appeared to fall short of heightened investor expectations following a recent rally in the stock.
Strong Quarter Fails to Impress
Navan delivered strong growth and operational metrics in its second-quarter report. The company posted revenue of $232.8 million, beating the consensus estimate of $220.5 million and representing a 35% increase year-over-year.
Other key performance indicators also showed robust momentum:
- Gross Bookings Value (GBV): Exceeded $3 billion, a 45% increase from the prior year.
- New Business: The company signed $4 billion in new GBV over the trailing twelve months.
- Enterprise Adoption: Navan added five new S&P 500 customers, bringing its total to 50.
AI Efficiencies Drive Margin Gains
AdManagement highlighted significant efficiency gains from its artificial intelligence tool, Ava, which handled approximately 60% of customer interactions during the quarter, up from 30% previously. This contributed to an improved non-GAAP gross margin of 75%, a 200 basis point increase, and a positive operating margin of 7%.
Despite these adjusted profit improvements, a key concern for investors was the growth in operating expenses, which rose 46%—faster than revenue. The company also reported positive trailing-twelve-month free cash flow of $28 million, a significant turnaround from a $33 million burn in the prior period.
Updated Outlook Underwhelms Market
Navan raised its outlook for the fiscal year 2027, projecting revenue between $927 million and $933 million and non-GAAP operating income of $82 million to $86 million. For the upcoming third quarter, it guided for revenue of $253 million to $255 million.
While the revised forecast represents continued growth, the market's severe negative reaction suggests investors had priced in a more aggressive acceleration. The results answered questions about Navan's ability to grow and expand margins, but the subsequent selloff indicates the focus has shifted to whether the company can meet a much higher bar for performance to justify its valuation.
