Background

Nasdaq Inc. shares rallied in pre-market trading Tuesday, defying a broad market sell-off after the exchange operator reported second-quarter 2026 earnings and revenue that surpassed analyst expectations. The company’s stock (NDAQ) climbed 2.0% following the release, according to Investing.com.

Strong Q2 Results Beat Forecasts

In an earnings release published around 7:00 AM Eastern, Nasdaq announced robust financial performance for the second quarter. The company posted adjusted earnings per share of $1.07, significantly above the consensus estimate of approximately $0.97 to $0.98.

Net revenue for the quarter reached $1.5 billion, a 15% increase year-over-year and also well ahead of market forecasts. The strong results were complemented by the board's declaration of a quarterly cash dividend of $0.31 per share, payable on September 25, 2026.

Double-Digit Growth Across Segments

The strong results were driven by growth across Nasdaq's main business lines. The Capital Access Platforms segment generated $621 million in revenue, an increase of 19% from the prior year, while the Financial Technology division's revenue climbed 16% to $539 million.

A standout performer was the Index business, where revenue surged 38% year-over-year to $271 million. Nasdaq attributed this growth to higher assets under management in its branded exchange-traded products and the high-profile addition of SpaceX to the Nasdaq-100 Index in early July.

Bucking a Weaker Market Trend

Nasdaq's pre-market gains came amid a hostile environment for equities. In contrast to NDAQ's rise, the S&P 500 was down about 1.05% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.56%, pressured by disappointing earnings from other large-cap technology firms and macroeconomic uncertainty.

The outperformance underscores investor confidence in Nasdaq's diversified business model. The positive results also followed recent optimism from analysts at firms including TD Cowen, which had raised its price target on the stock ahead of the report.
